“I want to help”
Our volunteers provide invaluable support to our patients, their families, and to our hospice program. Help is needed working with patients and families as well as non-patient-related activities, such as fundraising/event planning, bereavement support, spiritual care support, community presentations, transportation, office work, or respite care and patient companionship.
For more information, please reach out to our office directly at (517) 882-4500, submit a contact form, and/or fill out an application.
New & Current Volunteers:
All hours must be documented on a Volunteer Time Sheet.
Types of Volunteers
Stoneleigh Residence Volunteer: Volunteer positions at Stoneleigh Residence include working with patients and families, lawn and garden care, light housekeeping, maintenance and other duties.
Patient/Caregiver Volunteer: Patient/caregiver volunteers may provide companionship, caregiver relief and other duties in a patient’s home, nursing home facility or Stoneleigh Residence.
Administrative Volunteer: Volunteers are needed on a regular basis to help with mailings, copying, filing, answering phones, quality improvement, data entry assistance and other general office duties. These are the behind the scenes helpers that allow staff to work effectively and to better handle patient needs. Our Administrative Volunteers also assist with our Special Events, when needed.
Specialty Volunteer: Many members of our community volunteer their expertise in providing additional support for our families (barbers, beauticians, lawyers, financial planners, Reiki).
Vigil Volunteer: Sit with patients who are actively dying alone to provide respite for families or companionship to a patient who doesn’t have family in the area.
Community Outreach Volunteer: This type of volunteering is a unique way to educate our communities about benefits of hospice care as well as serve the needs of our agency. We are always in need of enthusiastic spokespersons to promote the hospice philosophy in our community on behalf of Hospice of Lansing & Stoneleigh Residence.
Is there training?
Volunteer training will prepare you to volunteer for Hospice of Lansing & Stoneleigh Residence. It will help you understand the hospice philosophy, end of life issues and how to work with community members facing terminal illnesses. All new volunteers need to complete the home-study in its entirety prior to volunteering.
