Hospice of Lansing Celebrates 40 Years of Serving Families

Hospice of Lansing is proud to celebrate its 40th anniversary as a community hospice serving mid-Michigan. As the original non-profit hospice of mid-Michigan, Hospice of Lansing is committed to their mission of offering personal care for all patients by bringing kindness, respect, and quality to the end of life since the beginning.
Founded in 1979, Hospice of Lansing was a volunteer organization that allowed community members to volunteer their time to helping others. Over the years they’ve experienced many changes as they evolved to serve the community, notably transitioning from an all-volunteer based organization to a nonprofit hospice with employees and board of directors.

Unassociated with any hospital or larger establishment, Hospice of Lansing has remained community-based since its opening.

“It has always been about people helping people,” said Executive Director John Person. “We are proud of our humble beginnings, our growth with community in mind and our history of compassion and care for our patients, and we plan to continue serving our community for another 40 years.”

The clinical team at Hospice of Lansing has changed over the years, but they are proud of one common thread among both current and past team members; their dedication to patients and families and the care they receive during this time in their life journey.

“I am grateful for the amazing team we have and for all we’ve accomplished in the past 40 years,” said Hospice of Lansing Medical Director Dr. James Laberge. “The culture of giving and caring is embodied in everyone on our team. It’s moving to be a part of something creating so much good, and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.”

Hospice of Lansing continues to offer mid-Michigan the highest quality of end-of-life care as a certified, independent nonprofit organization. They plan a series of celebrations through the year, including a celebration in June 2019.
